Silver River Knap-in: Stone Tool Making & Prehistoric Arts Festival, February 20-21, 2016

Added to our Calendar of Events:

FEBRUARY 20-21, 2016 (9 AM – 4 PM)

Don’t miss the sixth annual Silver River Knap-In at the beautiful Silver Springs State Park. Expert flint knappers (people who make stone tools such as spear points and knives), archaeologists, potters, hide tanners, bow makers and other specialists in prehistoric skills will gather from across the eastern U.S. to demonstrate their crafts.

This unique event includes displays of ancient Native American artifacts from Florida and archery, tomahawk and atlatl spear throwing demonstrations each day.

Presentations by archaeologists exploring the Pre-history of Florida will take place on both Saturday and Sunday. A flint knapping competition and on-going pre-historic skills demonstrations take place all weekend. Vendors also offer unique crafts, reproduction stone tools, raw stone, knapping tools and food for sale.

Visitors can also visit the Silver River Museum, hike or bike the trails of the state park, or canoe and kayak on the pristine Silver River. $5.00 Admission per person (kids five and under admitted free). Free state park entry and parking.
